Unlike Adam and Eve, Ava hasn’t yet learned to tame her wilder instincts, and her recklessness concerns Adam. Adam and Eve’s precarious footing is further threatened by the uninvited arrival of Eve’s carefree and uncontrollable little sister Ava. Watson, a skittish hematologist who provides safe blood at a price. Eve’s close friend, Christopher Marlowe, is an elder vampire who provides Eve with hospital blood. As blood has been tainted by the zombies (humans), the formerly immortal Adam and Eve must secure uncontaminated blood from hospitals or they will perish. She leaves her home in the ancient city of Tangier to come to his side. Eve, who is perhaps 3000 years old to Adam’s 500, takes a longer view of history and is more optimistic. Adam, a reclusive underground musician hiding out in the ruins of contemporary Detroit, despairs about human civilization’s decline, and worries about future survival. Both are cultured intellectuals with an all-embracing passion for music, literature and science, who have evolved to a level where they no longer kill for sustenance, but still retain their innate wildness. The 80s were definitely a peak in producing PG and G horror movies, which is partly why the MPAA eventually felt it necessary to create a PG-13 rating. Īdam and Eve have been lovers for centuries. Convinced that a supernatural force within the building is attempting to possess Dorsa, Shideh has no choice but to confront these forces if she is to save her daughter and herself. Searching for answers, she learns from a superstitious neighbor that the cursed missile might have brought with it Djinn – malevolent Middle-Eastern spirits that travel on the wind. Shideh finds herself slowly drawn into the ensuing turmoil, struggling to cling onto what is real and what is not. Soon after he leaves, a missile hits their apartment building and while failing to explode, a neighbor dies under mysterious circumstances and Dorsa’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic. With Tehran under the constant threat of aerial bombardment, her husband (Bobby Naderi) is drafted and sent to the frontlines by the army, leaving Shideh all alone to protect their young daughter, Dorsa (Avin Manshadi). Accused of subversion by the post-Revolution government and blacklisted from medical college, she falls into a state of malaise. Shideh (Narges Rashidi) and her family live amid the chaos of the Iran-Iraq war, a period known as The War of the Cities.
